Final Report Now Available

On November 7, 2001, the Office of Space Commercialization, the Space Enterprise Council administered by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Space Transportation Association co-hosted an invitation-only workshop on emerging commercial space markets. The goal was to involve industries not traditionally associated with commercial space activities in a discussion of potential future markets and the necessary conditions for market growth. Such industries included biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, media, power generation, cargo delivery, and passenger travel.

The workshop represented a departure from traditional space industry events. First, rather than focusing on current space markets, it focused on identifying realistic new markets and ways to remove barriers to entry. Second, it stressed concrete "next steps" to be incorporated into a report highlighting recommendations relevant to Government policy-makers, industry, and the investment community.
