Published Article on Economic Benefits of Second Civil GPS Signal

The Office of Space Commercialization hired economist Irv Leveson to assess the economic productivity benefits of the new GPS L2C signal being introduced with the GPS Block IIR-M satellites. He published some of his findings in the July/August 2006 issue of Inside GNSS magazine.

Leveson modeled various scenarios for the future. Under the most likely scenario, he estimated that L2C usage could yield around $5.8 billion in cumulative economic benefits through the year 2030.
