Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS)
NOAA’s Office of Space Commerce (OSC) is developing the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS) to provide basic space situational awareness (SSA) data and services to civil and private space operators and to support spaceflight safety, space sustainability, and international coordination.
TracSS will be implemented in a phased “crawl, walk, run” development approach. With each phase, more commercial data and commercial SSA services will be integrated as core capabilities over time. This phased transition, coordinated across the U.S. Government, will help ensure there is no disruption in basic SSA safety services.
TraCSS will feature 3 distinct components:
- TraCSS-OASIS: Data repository
- TraCSS-SKYLINE: SSA application services
- TraCSS-HORIZON: modeling, simulation, & research environment and development & test environment

TraCSS Listening Session: Space Data Standards and Formats – Orbit Comprehensive Message (OCM)
On Thursday, May 9, from 2:00 – 3:00 pm (EDT), the Department of Commerce’s Office of Space Commerce will host a TraCSS listening session on “Space Data Standards & Formats: Orbit Comprehensive Message”.
Learn about and provide feedback on the proposal for the Traffic Coordination System for Space to use the Orbit Comprehensive Message (OCM) data standard for satellite ephemeris, maneuver data, and other related information to support spaceflight safety and space traffic coordination.

These sessions are likewise an opportunity for stakeholders to offer and provide feedback to the Office of Space Commerce.

Through its partnership with NASA, OSC has placed new orders for space situational awareness services with two U.S. commercial companies. The service orders will support OSC’s Consolidated Pathfinder project that will inform the development of its operational Traffic Coordination System for Space.
