ClearView Arrangements Awarded to Three Remote Sensing Firms

On March 29, 2003, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) announced its ClearView initiative, awarding a multi-year contract and entering into agreements with three U.S. commercial data providers — DigitalGlobe, Space Imaging, and OrbImage — to provide the government with satellite imagery at up to one meter resolution.

The ClearView agreements guarantee minimum government purchases of imagery and hold a maximum value of $500 million each, with options for additional imagery purchases.

The government’s long-term commitments provide financial stability and new market opportunities to the commercial data providers. In turn, successful commercial operations will enable the government to acquire valuable remote sensing data in a timely and cost effective manner.
