DOC Supports U.S.-India Civil Space Cooperation Talks

On January 30-31, 2023, the Commerce Department participated in the 8th meeting of the U.S. -India Civil Space Joint Working Group (CSJWG), held at the State Department in Washington, D.C.

Officials from the Office of Space Commerce, from NOAA/NESDIS, and from the Bureau of Industry Security represented the Department on the U.S. delegation, addressing a variety of topics including space situational awareness, space regulation, and export controls.

In addition, on January 31, 2023, Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo participated in the first meeting of the U.S.-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), also held in Washington.

Among other things, the two nations announced an effort on strengthening the bilateral commercial space partnership, including through a new DOC and Indian Department of Space-led initiative under the CSJWG. This initiative will foster U.S.-India commercial space engagement and enable growth and partnerships between U.S. and Indian commercial space sectors.

The Office of Space Commerce will coordinate DOC’s efforts in this regard.
